the city of brotherly love…

My family (well half of us) just returned from a quick trip to Philadelphia (a dear, dear past time for me) to visit family, do some sight-seeing and eat Philly cheese steaks!  If you follow me on Twitter (@meredithwjewell) you may have already known this through some of my tweets this past weekend, but otherwise I thought I’d share some of the trip with you here…through pictures (as usual) and a few more details…

We dropped Zoe off to spend a weekend with her cousin Baylee (insert image of dog here) and my brother-in-law Ryan (aka: field trip for her).  She was excited to go (as she’s excited any time she gets to ride in the car) and boy was she pooped after her long, fun weekend!

But once we arrived in Philly (and with very smooth flights/travel which doesn’t always happen in the summer months due to unpredictable weather), we headed straight for one of our very favorite eateries, Dalessandro’s in Roxborough to have a Philly Cheese Steak!  I know you’ve heard of Pat’s & Geno’s from The Food Network, but this is really a great spot, too!

The following day we arose to what was slightly better weather than we’re having in the southeast…under a 100 (and even under 90 for that matter!)…much different and much better for doing sight-seeing outside.  We headed to downtown (historical) Philadelphia to see the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and other sights that tell the stories of our Founding Fathers from the 1700’s…I think this is a trip all politicians should take…it gave me more respect for those that served before our time rather than some in political offices now.  We had a good meal downtown, visited Betsy Ross’s house (she’s the one who made our first flag – stars & stripes), saw where Benjamin Franklin lived & worked, visited the very historical Christ Church where Washington & Franklin went, toured a few more historical sites & landmarks that have history for our country (and even saw a statue of the Philly Phanatic!  Sadie loved him…can you tell in the picture at the bottom of this section?)

(my attempt at a panoramic picture…a little off and slightly creepy with the messed up window, slanted door and a half-man…oops?!)

And now it’s time to relax…what an educational trip with lots to see and visiting family & friends (oops, left them out of the pics!), but Philly will always be very close to my heart…so here’s to you, the City of Brotherly LOVE…

friends & babies…

This weekend I enjoyed some girl time with good friends and celebrating one of my best friends’ upcoming baby arrival by hosting a shower for her on Sunday afternoon.  Not many details to report on the weekend (except thru pictures), but it was great to catch up with friends and so much fun getting to spoil my dear friend Molly & baby girl Cashman (ETA “Estimated To Arrive” around September 27th)…can’t wait to meet you little one!  (enjoy the pics…)
