Thanksgiving wrap-up & on to Christmas!

I hope you all had a wonderful & restful Thanksgiving.  I did and yet it went by too quickly (doesn’t it always?).  But it was great to have family in town and to visit with friends, get in some shopping and bring home a win… or rather that’s how MY Thanksgiving wrap-up went… how was yours?!?

I enjoyed all the Turkey Day food & even had some delicious leftovers to enjoy (but now it’s about time to throw it out I’d say)… turkey, mac ‘n cheese, broccoli soufflé, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, stuffing, and the list goes on…

On Friday afternoon my sisters, mom, niece & I all went out to the mall to do some not-so-usual holiday shopping, but instead we accomplished rehearsal-dinner-dress-shopping. (As you may have previously read, my sister & future brother-in-law’s upcoming wedding weekend in less than three weeks away!).  While in search for the perfect dress, I came across the very cute & vastly popular Justin Bieber!!!  I know it, aren’t you jealous?!  Ok, it wasn’t him, but it was a cute cut-out of him – you like?

My niece Sadie also enjoyed flirting with the guys in the store – she found a handsomely dressed mannequin to warm up to – or for a cute photo op.

The rest of her time was spent riding along in the fun little cart!

Before the weekend was up, we attended the highly-anticipated rivalry game between USC & Clemson – only like the biggest event in South Carolina sports annually.  This year we decided to host Thanksgiving for two reasons: (1) because it was something new & fun and we could bring our families together in a centrally-located place, and (2) the USC/Clemson game was in Columbia.  Of course I dressed in my garnet & black while David casually sported a slightly toned-down version of Clemson colors (thank you!) in a purple & white shirt.

So not the best pictures from my phone that night, but you get the picture (literally) – and the score.  And although it was a tough loss for the Tigers & David, I came out of that night excited for the Gamecocks! (And he was still smiling in that picture taken after the defeat.)  ;)

So after a long weekend of eating, drinking (ok, a little), tailgating, partying, celebrating & visiting with family and friends, it was time to wine down and start decorating for the next holiday…

Here comes Christmas!!

Prepping for Turkey Day

This year we’re hosting Thanksgiving at our home – something new, to switch things up – and incorporate both sides of our families after just over a year+ of marriage .  We’ve cleaned the house, bought the food, set the table and are awaiting their arrival…

…and so I thought I’d share with you a few shots of the prep work I’ve done and the first visitor to arrive…

Repeat of a great weekend?

I’d say so!  And I know I gave a little ‘sneak peak’ before the weekend… but that’s all in reference to a girls' getaway from earlier this year and therefore because it was so darn relaxing & dreamy, we decided to do it again!  What’s so wrong with that?  I mean if I could sell one place on you to visit this would be it – oh no, don’t want to confuse things – I didn’t stay the weekend at the Grove Park Inn (although I’m sure the accommodations are fantastic) – I’m instead referring to the Grove Park Inn Spa – yes, that’s right, “Heavenly on Earth”… (or so I’d like to call it).  This place is magnificent.  The way it was constructed on a mountain with the rock a part of the interior design & décor, to the amenities, service & treatments; for the price & time spent in the facilities… well worth it!  And the view?  Well, you can’t quite beat that either – gorgeous (cool) fall sunset with a cocktail in hand to stay warm.  ;)

And so that’s how the weekend started…

one of my all-time favs…

After wrapping up the Spa day, we headed to Bouchon, a small French Bistro in downtown Asheville.  The smells and food were intoxicating & the waiter was just as pleasant!  Well done – hats off to the chefs; and as for the desserts?  Well, we opted for three – and the one I chose for the table to share was the Crème Brulee Flight – yep 4 in 1!  And what’s interesting about this dessert after spending a day in the Spa with smells and products full of rosemary, lavender and other herbs is that our desserts were made with the same things!  So although it was delicious, I have to say that it was tough taking down the lavender portion of the dessert flight – sort-of felt like I was eating the Spa products – oops!?

The rest of the weekend was spent shopping, eating (Tupelo Honey Café is fantastic – and with two locations – you can’t go wrong at either place!), more shopping, more eating (Corner Kitchen in Biltmore Village for another delicious dinner and fabulous waitress) and catching up on sleep!  After a number of recent weekends celebrating my sister Adrienne and her fiancé Pauls’ upcoming wedding (and I mean celebrating), it was nice to have a low-key weekend away in which I actually did catch up on sleep.

a very tiny appetizer (crab mix atop a cucumber slice – delicious!)

The one down side to this weekend was (if this is even a down side), I forgot my camera and left it behind at home… I know, right?!  Terrible!!  A weekend in the mountains in the fall and I forget my camera??  Well good thing the iPhone takes good pictures… so I wasn’t too bad off in capturing some of the weekend, but I didn’t get great people shots – so here’s to the scenery & food… such will have to do – Cheers!
